- To use a handheld Mag Concrete Float, wait for the concrete to set slightly until it can support your weight with minimal sinking. Then, hold the float flat against the surface and move it back and forth with gentle, consistent pressure, making sure to tilt it slightly to avoid digging in. Your goals are to fill divots and air pockets with cement "cream" and to bring up more of this material to the surface to create a smooth, consistent base for final finishing.
