- A kinetic water ram is a compact, lightweight tool that uses compressed air to clear clogs in pipes and drains. It works by releasing a burst of air into a column of water, which creates a shock wave that travels through the water at a speed of about 4,700 feet per second. This shock wave, called kinetic energy, breaks up blockages and flushes away waste particles. The shock wave can bypass vents and stacks, and travel around bends in the drain without losing force, making it especially useful for clogs on the far side of a drum trap or in tight spaces. Because 98% of the shock wave hits the clog, and not the pipe walls, it won't damage or weaken pipes.
