- To use a long handled concrete groover, first let the concrete set slightly after initial floating. Place the groover at the start of your desired line, and apply even pressure as you push it along, creating a controlled crack line that is typically one-quarter of the slab's depth. For extra precision and a straight line, you can use a straight edge as a guide.
